The BCSB is planning on starting a monthly User Forum to solicit feedback from users on the current and future use of the beamlines. Saphire group solves Ebola virus structures
The Ebola virus contains only 8 proteins, and yet it is versatile and deadly. How does it do so much with so little? Some of the crystal structures solved by Dr. Saphire‘s group at the BCSB beamlines shed light on how one of the Ebola proteins fits together in several different ways…
BCSB Represented at the IUCR in Montreal
The BCSB teamed up with other crystallographers at the ALS to run a booth promoting the ALS beamlines. Marc and Diane gave remote demos of the beamlines at the booth, showing how easy it was to connect to and run the BCSB beamlines remotely, even over a wireless connection at a large conference. And Diane presented a poster on the diode beamstop she has designed and built, garnering lots of interest in the device!
Ice Cream Social and Poster Party at the ALS
We celebrated our student James Tyler’s last day of his internship by making liquid nitrogen ice cream. James presented his poster while participants enjoyed strawberry ice cream.
BCSB at the ACA 2014
Several of the BCSB staff went to the 2014 ACA meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Here they are at the ALS booth, where they teamed up with many other ALS groups to promote crystallography at the ALS. The beachballs were a big hit!

The First Day of Shutdown
