The Ebola virus contains only 8 proteins, and yet it is versatile and deadly. How does it do so much with so little? Some of the crystal structures solved by Dr. Saphire‘s group at the BCSB beamlines shed light on how one of the Ebola proteins fits together in several different ways to create different structures inside the cell. These different structures in turn have very different functions, allowing the virus to do many things with only a few proteins.
