Once your beam time has been scheduled, follow the steps below to prepare for remote collection with the BCSB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Get your BCSB login credentials.<\/strong> Email our support staff at bcsbsupport@lbl.gov<\/a> to request a username and password for our servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Test your remote connection in advance.<\/strong> Don’t wait until your scheduled beam time to find out there’s a problem. Download the NoMachine client and set up your display and connection parameters by following our remote data collection instructions<\/a>. Then log into your home directory on one of our processing and data backup servers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you’ve logged into one of these servers successfully, your credentials will also work on the beamline servers after beamline staff enable your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wait for an email from beamline staff<\/strong> before logging in. Please do not try to connect to the beamline until staff send you instructions with your puck positions and the beamline server to use. If you haven’t heard from us by the start of your scheduled time, call our support line at (510) 495-2500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Start the beamline software<\/strong>. After connecting to your assigned beamline server with the NoMachine client, open a terminal window and enter the command b4, then enter your BCSB login and password. Take a few minutes to get familiar with the tabs and the location of the buttons. The BOS manual<\/strong><\/a> has details on each part of the interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Beamline staff will be available via chat and phone at the beginning of your beamtime to answer any questions you may have about the software and familiarize you with beamline operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once comfortable on the beamline, BCSB staff will turn over operations to you to run your experiment as you see fit. We encourage you to call and ask questions if there is anything you are unsure about or if you need advice on collection parameters or processing your data.
